From our correspondent, MikeS:
“John T decided not to play, so seven golfers arrived for a Novelty game. Mike Smith had played on the previous day and decided to use the buggy space vacated by John. There were three walkers, Peter F, Stuart and Alan- Peter R and Mike shared one buggy and John H and Nick, the other,
We decided to play the game in which the pairs had to choose 12 Stableford scores on each of the first and second nine holes and the three ball had to choose 18 scores on each, the scores being divided by 2 and 3 respectively at the end of the round.
Nick and John were on fire for the first three holes and giddy from scoring 3,3,4, committed the sin of casting aside a 2 pointer. At this point they were 4 points ahead of a pedestrian Mike and Peter R, both pairings having banked three scores. On the next hole M and P scored 5 point to J and N’s 0 and at the half way mark led by 28 points to 22. The highlight of the first nine holes did not appear on the scoresheet since Peter sensibly decided to accept a 3 and a 2 on the eighth, completing the required 12 scores. Murphy then took over and Peter scored a 4, for 4 points and Mike a 5 for three points on the ninth!
Nick and John got some revenge on the back nine by 30 points to another 28 giving scores of 14/14 for M and P and 11/15 for N and J
Over the usual excellent lunch we discovered that the three ball had scored 12.7 and 13 points and so lost 3 Bash coins each with Mike and Peter winning 4 each and Nick and John the remaining 1 between them”
