From our correspondent:
“Richard, an exclusive group of athletes assembled at Temple on a crisp and clear Wednesday 7th December at 11am for the necessary pre-game honing of their putting and chipping skills. We were but four in number:- Bill, Alan, John T and Mike. John and Mike had buggies, Bill and Alan elected to walk. The balls were thrown and Bill and Mike played John and Alan for the Bash coins. We teed off at 11.35
The first nine holes took two and a half hours and are best glossed over. Whilst it was gloriously sunny, there was nothing glorious about the golf and at the turn the scores were- Alan 9, John 10, Bill 9 and Mike 14. Alan and Mike had elected to submit their scores, so were concerned that they would be unable to complete the round at the current snails pace and pressed for a speed up.
It was getting colder and John had to put on even more clothing, but the speed up did improve the scoring- Alan 14, John 14, Bill 13 and Mike 16 and , to our surprise, we completed the round in the daylight with a beautiful moon low in the winter sky.
Warming up with tea and sponge cake we discovered that Mike and Bill had collected all the Bash coins, with Bill in a starring role on the back nine with four blobs, two twos and three threes.
Mike”
