From our Correspondent:
“Having been given the role of novelty game organiser by Richard, and having a perfect 6 players arrive, the chosen format was a team multiplier, all players scores counting! The previous Saturday had been Temple Captains day, with the same format, and your correspondents team had taken till the fifth hole to have all players scoring!
The teams were Bill, MikeW, Dr. John, against Stuart, Alan, John T.
It became apparent on the first green, when 2 of us had scored our 2 points each, that Alan was standing over his putt, and realising that a miss was going to cost the team 4 points. He did! The team carried on a steady, but unspectacular scoring run until the 6th when a miss gave the inevitable blob. We had decided early on that sorry was a forbidden word, but guilt is inevitable !
Fortunately it transpired that the other team were fairing slightly worse, and had their first blob on the fourth!
We all realised that it would take just one 3 pointer for each of the team to seal the match, however this was not to be, and at the turn Stuart,Alan and John had scored 44 to the oppos’ 29.
The most gratifying part of the day was that every player contributed to the blob count, and also that only one player had the misfortune to be putting when the others had both got 3 points! His score meant that the team managed 9 not 27! In the true spirit of BB camaraderie, no names!
Throughout the very enjoyable round, Alan was once again going in for critical self-analysis involving Tempo, Rhythm, Strategy and Technique, plus several other useful skills. Your correspondent can report that these are all tactics which are working, but maybe not necessarily in the right order!
It was agreed afterwards that the extra pressure was masochistic fun, and gave a new kind of approach to shot selection, thinking of the impact on the team score. It was also agreed that the problem was in executing this approach.
The back 9 went to Bill, Mike and John 37 points to 33 giving overall victory to Stuart, J.T and Alan 77 to 66 To be repeated with a couple of mulligans thrown in.”
