From our correspondent who fortunately survived to tell the tale:
“Following Richard’s departure to the south coast on family business, we were reduced to five contestants, only for Stuart to step into the breech. He. in turn, picked up a cold and decided it would be tempting fate to challenge his immune system on a windy golf course at 3 degrees centigrade and so we became 5 once more- Mike S, Robert M, Alan, Bill and Roger.
We didn’t even have to throw the balls in the air to choose the two teams for the Bashcoins since Roger, who was sharing a buggy with Bill, said they didn’t want to be held up by walkers and they teed off immediately.
We had thought that the balls might run, following an overnight frost, but the ground was still muddy and pars difficult to come by. ( Sub-Editors note- this is classic British understatement. Mike parred the 1st and the 18th and Robert the 12th and that’s it)
Whist it was a cold day the sun was shining brightly and it was difficult to see where the ball had gone when facing the sun and then difficult to find it when it fell amongst leaves.
We were joined by Stuart and Peter F in the clubhouse and discussed our scores, the brittle nature of Trump’s cabinet and the taxing sins of Rachel Reeves.
The Bashcoins were all won by the walkers who went out in 21 and back in 19 for 40
The buggiers went out in 13 and back in 17 for 30
The individual scores were:- Alan 16 and 15=31, Mike 18 and 10=28, Robert 12 and 15=27, Roger 12 and 12=24 and Bill 7and 11=18
Hope this does the trick”
