The Autumn Tankard

From our correspondents:

” From Mike:
Richard, I did not win, but three people received identical prizes- this was after all an Ashley Hutton production.

There were 5 of us. Bill, John T, Rob, Ash and me. With an odd number a team prize looked difficult so we were commanded to play as individuals. Bill and I teed off first, followed by Ash, John and Rob

We gathered in the clubhouse for toasted teacakes, tea, beer. and results, to learn that Ash had three identical bottles of wine to distribute. He did not reveal the scores but said that John and Bill did not qualify. He then said that he had just been narrowly beaten by me and that I had been narrowly beaten by Rob- who is on a winning streak. We know that Rob got 34 points and whilst I know my score the rest were not discussed

The prize was an excellent bottle of white Burgundy”

And from Rob – some scores:
“Yes, 5 hardy Bashers turned out for the Autumn Tankard on a lovely sunny autumn afternoon. The pace was very slow as we were following a medal competition where the players were waiting on each shot for the teams in front to be at least 250 yds away before they played their next shot. This inevitably upset our golf rhythm. So our result was: Rob 1st with 34pts. Mike S 2nd with 31pts. & Ash 3rd. With 28pts.  A bottle of wine was awarded to each and a very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.”
