The Summer Jug

From our correspondent:

“The Summer Jug took place today at Winter Hill in the customary desert conditions.

The heat has clearly sapped the enthusiasm of the Bashers as there were only four stalwarts who turned out for the privilege. Ashley partnered Mike S, and Peter R and Alan provided the challenge (once Alan had arrived at the right course and joined us on the second tee).

As we are now accustomed, the balls were flying, and several drives went over 250 yards, with some, but not all, remaining on the fairway. They were going everywhere, and often difficult or impossible to track as they disappeared over a ridge in the middle of the fairway and then followed the slope off the edge, never to be found.

Overall it was an enjoyable outing with Mike excelling yet again, well supported by Ashley, to bring home 42 points, while Alan brought in the majority of the other team’s score, but with only 32 points it was not enough to take the money. Strangely this coincided with Alan’s personal score.

We continue to pray for rain, and a bit of softening of the ground. Roll on the Autumn. Ashley took the executive decision that with such a small turnout the funds did not extend to prizes, so Mike no doubt compensated with a large glass of Pinot Noir when he got home. Maybe that’s his secret weapon – it certainly seems to work.”
