Wednesday 31st March will resonate through history as the date when the vast majority of Ballbashers, 12 in total, returned to the golfing fray after months practicing their putting on the hall carpet at home.
Sadly I was not able to be amongst the throng so the match reports covering the first Eclectic game of the 2021 season comprise snippets from the socially distanced groups.
From JohnH we learn..
“What a treat to be back on the golf course again and for the first two holes it was like we had never been away with with 14 points scored between us and six points for our eclectic total. By hole 4 normal service had been resumed with only 2 points scored.
A very enjoyable round, we all had our moments of glory, Mike came back strongly with a back 9 score of 18 points to finish with 31, Roger was hitting the ball sweetly and scored 29 matching my 29 points and John T came in with 20 which included shaving the pin with his drive on the 8th hole and ending up with a 3 for 4 points.
We finished the round with 42 points for our eclectic team score which included a strong finish of 7 points on the last two holes. Weary but happy we walked off the 18th green with Mike on his course of steroids looking like he could go straight out and play another round. Maybe we should put a couple of his tablets in our coffee before we go out again next Wednesday.”
From Bill we learn ………… “Michael kicked ass”
Elsewhere there was confusion about handicaps and team make-up …………..so, despite everything that happens in the wider world, we can rest secure in the knowledge that nothing much changes in the world of the Ballbasher, for which fact, we can be eternally grateful.
Post Script – Although MikeW “kicked ass”, it is the case that Roger, JohnH and JohnT each posted 4 points on a hole and that, in the end, is what seems to count in the Eclectic League.
Also Alan and Bill won the front 9, MikeW and Rob, the back 9 and Roger and MikeS the overall so a wide distribution of BashCoins.
