Blue Moon produces Brown Egg

It was one of those days of the “once in a blue moon” variety when, apart from the normal habit of hitting my putts 4 to 6 feet further than I need to, everything else in my golf game was working very well with the result that I racked up 42 points and it could have been more if I hadn’t missed a microscopic putt and stuffed a couple more way past the pin.

It was a game in the Ashley Tankard series and tankards had been given up long ago in favour of bags of edible goodies from whichever shop Ashley patronised. I usually go along to these events hoping that it has been an Italian Week at Lidl but whatever treats Ashley has in store are fine by me.

We were playing at Winter Hill and were 10 in number. Ashley’s prizes were based on pairs playing so the draw was split into one pair on their own in front followed by two 4-balls each of 2 pairs. We used the magic of coloured Lego bricks for the draw which can be guaranteed to sow confusion in the BB ranks but all was eventually clear and Ashley and I ended up being the lead pair playing on our own.

What followed was a really enjoyable stroll round a course in excellent condition with no wind at all. Our chatter was occasionally interrupted by the need to hit the ball nearer the target hole and we found that we meshed very well. At the end of the front 9 we found that we had 24 points which felt like a competitive number and so we continued around the back 9 in a very relaxed manner. We were never held up and we were never being pushed by one of our 4-balls behind – an ideal way to enjoy golf.

The back 9 added another 23 points to our total and we retired to the clubhouse where we were able to sit on the terrace for a short wait before we were joined by the rest of the group who were all in an equally happy mood.

The team scores were as follows:
Ashley & Richard 24 + 23 = 47
PeterR & RobM 20 + 21 = 41
Stuart & Bill 17 + 22 = 39
MikeS & RobA 17 + 20 = 37
Roger & PeteF 19 + 17 = 36

The prizes for victory were two very large chocolate Easter eggs and for coming 2nd the prizes were two smaller Easter eggs. Ashley and I are both endeavouring to cope with Type 2 Diabetes so we disappeared home with our eggs with the intention of looking for someone to share them with thereby slightly assuaging the guilt!
