A brief report from our correspondent whose prophecy about big improvements in Eclectic Scores proved only too right – the competition is looking very tight this year:
“Little to report other than:
1. On the “only 3 point and 4 points to count” basis, Team A (Pete F, Peter R & me) scored 55 points, beating Team B (John S, Alan & Mike S) by 1 point.
2. Weather was very pleasant and the balls were running a long way.
3. Pete F’s trolley continued its on-course antics… at one point it attacked Peter R’s ball and carefully and apparently deliberately moved it 6 feet… Pete F maintained that he’d lost control of his equipment and, after a team consultation, it was decided not to penalise Pete or his trolley.
4. In our group the individual scores were Peter R 36, Pete F 35 and me 33… in my case after picking up my ball to post zero points on three holes on the basis that I couldn’t beat my existing eclectic score… I think the other team’s scores were similar, i.e. consistently high.
5. I suspect that, given the high scoring, there’ll be some significant increases in eclectic scores…
