Perfect at Temple

From our correspondent:

“Five Ballbashers arrived at Temple to be greeted with perfect weather, perfect views and a course that looked to be in perfect condition, with Mike S, Mike W & Alan taking on Bill & Nick in this Summer League game.

Bill in particular waxed lyrical about the panoramas on offer as his recently renovated eyes took in the scenes in front of him and revealed aspects of the course that he hadn’t seen for years. Nick’s vision was also significantly improved as his new glasses were given their first golf outing. The resulting scores from both – 19 points and 20 points respectively – could be attributed to an inability to adjust their play, in particular their putting, to their enhanced optics but the unfortunate truth is that things didn’t go according to plan as far as their golfing skills were concerned. Alan clearly endured similar problems but Mike W and Mike S showed that points were on offer if the right combination of skills were applied to the task, returning 33 and 30 points respectively, despite the fact that the fairly “solid” bunkers and the ball-eating rough took their toll on any wayward shots.

Both teams went round the course in well under 4 hours, although Bill & Nick’s speed was “buggy assisted”. Temple’s new buggy fleet is truly excellent with all sorts of gizmos on offer including the ability to link your phone to their inbuilt speakers, a feature that Vlad in the Pro Shop introduced Bill to before we set off and which Bill enthusiastically embraced, flooding the putting green with excellent but rather loud Hawaiian music. Fortunately, Bill resisted the temptation to engage this feature while on the course, but it’s nice to know it’s there.

Sitting on Temple’s terrace enjoying the views in the late afternoon sun was a joy, only marginally reduced when the final reckoning showed that Mike W, Mike S and Alan had pocketed all of the Bashcoins.”

All the best, Nick”
